FROM ZIMMER
TO STRAUSS:
GLOBAL WALTZING
Hans Zimmer and Johann Strauss - they may feel like they’re a world apart, but they’re closer then you might think.
In an innovative new show that features Aleksey Igudesman’s trademark blend of adventurous musicality, kinetic stage performance, wit, warmth and joy, The Limitless Orchestra is let loose on the most elegant dance in history - The Waltz.
Opening with a rich and textured theatrical introduction to each member of the ensemble, the audience is invited to discover the beating heart of the orchestra. They’re not here to sit as spectators - they are compelled to accompany us on an epic journey.
From the impossibly tight virtuosity of The Emperor’s Waltz, (boasting schizophrenic collisions between European elegance and sophisticated ethnic melodies of the Middle East), the stage is set for a show that sees tradition and culture as a playground to be explored - a set of rules crying out to be broken. From there, Igudesman and The Limitless Orchestra weave a twisted path through musical history.
From the Latin-infused supercharging of Strauss’ Blue Danube, the otherworldly electro-choir of DaVinci Code, through to the roaming Roma band that gives a rowdy rendition of Zimmer’s theme from Sherlock Holmes, this is all music you know, but as you’ve never heard it before.
Culminating in an arrangement of Time from Zimmer’s Inception soundtrack, Igudesman and Marks wreak their own brand of creative mayhem across Zimmer’s masterwork, taking it on a journey from waltz and tango, through to Latin, Celtic, Hard Rock and even ending up with A Bollywood-Rap mashup that somehow feels as inevitable as it is improbable.
A breathtaking show where two giants of music—Zimmer and Strauss—do not compete, but stand side-by-side, drawing unexpected parallels and transforming the classic waltz into a journey around the world.
